Where did Ravana get the golden Lanka?
Have you ever wondered, how did Ravana get the golden Lanka? The story is something like this, Goddess Parvati was bored of living in caves. So she requested Lord Mahadev. That it would be great if a small palace was built for me like the rest of the gods. Lord Mahadev understood this. And he agreed, God called the most capable architect Vishwakarma. First the map was prepared, then the Bhoomi Pujan was done in the auspicious time and the work started rapidly. The palace was after all of Lord Shankar and Mother Parvati, so no normal palace was being built, a huge palace was built. As if a city was built, a unique work of art, as if heaven had descended on earth. After all, who was the builder, the great Vishwakarma built this palace with all his might.
There was cheering in all the three worlds, a city was built. Which never existed on earth before. Ganesh ji and Kartikeya ji were overjoyed. Mother Parvati was very happy, but there was only one concern. Who should be assigned the task of worship in this unique palace. The Brahmin who performs the worship rituals should also be of the same caliber as this beautiful palace. And Lord Mahadev Ji was asked whom to call and he thought a lot and a name came to mind. “Ravana” who had created a stir in all directions with his knowledge, intelligence, wisdom and studies, who had the power to come and go in all three worlds, who pleased the gods with his continuous penance. Whose fame had spread in all ten directions. Such a Ravana was called from Sri Lanka for the worship ritual of the huge palace built on Mount Kailash. Ravana accepted to come, and reached on time.
The worship of Grihapravesh was done in a supernatural way, the best of the best gods and scholars were invited. After this ritual was completed, when the guests were welcomed, the guests and scholars were served food. Meanwhile, Mother Parvati said, ask for Dakshina, on this Ravana said, Mother, you are the mother of the whole world, what Dakshina will I ask from you. On this, Mother Parvati said, the ritual is not complete without Dakshina. And with your arrival, the beauty of the entire festival has become supernatural. Ask for whatever you want. Lord Mahadev will definitely please you. Ravana said, I do not want to trouble you mother, I have had darshan, that is enough for me.
He was becoming more humble. So the mother said, this is your greatness, the king of Lanka. But Dakshina is necessary for the completion of the ritual. Ask for whatever you want as per your wish, we will respect you. Ravana said, I am feeling hesitant mother. So the mother said, you have to leave your hesitation and you have to think about the completion of this yagya. So pausing a little, Ravana said, if you are really happy with my worship. And want to satisfy me. If really God has the courage to give me Dakshina, then give me this golden city. When Ravana said this, the mother stopped for a while. Mahadev Ji, who was sitting nearby, said 'Amen'. Ravana was very happy and his joy knew no bounds.
And on the request of Lord, Vishwakarma lifted this city from Mount Kailash and established it in Sri Lanka. Since then Ravana's Lanka came to be known as the Golden Lanka. Since then, Mother Parvati never had the desire to have a Golden Palace.
